7/21 - “Twist on corporal punishment”

By The Stabbing Pen | July 21, 2008

I don’t know the figure off the top of my head, but there’s definitely a bunch of states in this country that have the death penalty, which is the most extreme form of punishment.  If you commit a lesser crime than murder, you are subject to serving jail time — or on a lesser scale, fines, probation, and community service are often handed down by judges as punishment.

What about corporal punishment for serious crimes that are lesser than that of murder?  I’m talking about rape, assault, etc. But instead of inflicting physical pain via corporal punishment (which is so medieval and passe), I’m more in favor of the infliction of emotional pain and humiliation.  To me, this is way more satisfying.

Just imagine, if periodically a convicted rapist is subjected to public humiliation.  So far, I’ve come up with the idea of tossing the salad of a vile and overweight middle-aged woman.  I mean, the criminal would be subjected to doing this monthly, on top of the prison sentence of course.  Of course there are other ways to public humiliate people besides having them performing anilingus against their will.  But it’s a start.  Any suggestions?

  1. The Comedian Denis Leary had an idea I was always rather fond of: for priests who even looked at an alter boy the wrong way, he decided they should, “stand naked in the middle of Times Square with a big neon sign saying, ‘I carry a torch for kids who carry candles.’”
