7/23 - “Remedy to elevator awkwardness”

By The Stabbing Pen | July 23, 2008

There’s no possible way that I invented this technique, but if you find yourself in an elevator with somebody you for whatever reason don’t want to talk to, just start to pretend to text on your cell —- or actually text.  Instead of staring up at the numbers as the elevator passes by each floor, just fiddle with your cell phone.

In fact, I often jot down notes into my cell phone for future blog posts.  So yes, while I was in my building’s elevator in an attempt to limit some awkwardness, I literally typed “I’m glad I can pretend to text in elevators to give me something to do.”

The only potential issue that could develop is if you continue to fiddle with your phone in the elevator every time you see the same person in there.  Of course, if this is a person you are avoiding interaction with, why would you care what they think of you?  I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be seen as that douche-bag who’s constantly playing with their phone.
