7/30 - “It came out wrong”

I remember this one time I was in a car with some co-workers, and we were on the way to lunch together. One of ‘em took out a cell phone, and to me it looked very high tech. This was actually pre-iPhone days. Impressed by how technologically advanced it was, I blurted out, “Wow, can you bomb Iraq with this thing?”
I didn’t intend to conjure up violent war imagery, but rather my intentions were to just exaggerate the phone’s capabilities by being topical. The joke was poorly conceived and constructed, but even worse, unbeknownst to me at the time, the other girl in the car was of Iraqi descent. WHOOPS.
