11/2 - “Offensive costume procedures, part II”
By The Stabbing Pen | November 2, 2008
Over the weekend I attended a Halloween party that consisted of a good amount of Mexican-Americans.
Wikipedia says - ” Cholo is used for a person of Mexican background who wishes to present a tough, sometimes even gangster-like image.” I could see how the word Cholo could possibly be similar to the word nigger. Not exactly, but sort of in the same boat.
Anyway, a (white) friend of mine who ended up coming to the party as a Mormon told me he seriously considered coming to the party in Cholo attire. Then he thought the better of it, and opted not to go with the costume.
There’s only one way he could have really gotten away with it. He’d have to be part of some sort of group of “offensive” stereotypical ethic-themed costumes.
Hmmm, I think I have some ideas for Halloween 2009.
