11/7 - “Guilty pleasures”

By The Stabbing Pen | November 7, 2008

I have mixed feelings about what defines a guily pleasure, and if such a concept really exists.  Experiencing pleasure is a good thing, while feeling guilty about it is not.  In this case, the pleasure typically comes first, then somehow you suffer for it later.  A good example is fast food.

Listening to music (from the 1980’s) is not a guilty pleasure.  You will not gain weight, or develop a rash afterwards.  Listening to Culture Club is probably not harmful to the mind or body.  You might not even turn gay after a few listens.

Anyway, I have no guilt when listening to “We Are the World,” or when watching the video for it on YouTube.  I’ll admit, I really dig the song, and I think it’s really cool that all those famous people actually gathered together.  It’s not even so much for a good cause as the reason I’m moved, but just the actual singing itself I find impressive.

SO FUCK YOU.  NO GUILT.  BEST VIDEO EVER.
