11/11 - “Vote ignorantly for our Veterans”

By The Stabbing Pen | November 11, 2008

Last week when I voted on Election Day, the California ballot had a bunch of measures.  Many of them required me to make a decision as a citizen whether or not I was willing to have the government spend money on certain programs.  Admittedly, while I did do some research before stepping into the booth, it was very minimal.  That being said, I’m probably still more informed than the average eligible schmucky voter.

Whether it’s building hospitals, funding environmental programs, or considering using money for transportation endeavors, these all can require debate whether or not as citizens these specific proposals we’re voting on make sense.  Believe me, hospitals, a clean environment, and roads are all necessary, but the question then becomes whether or not these specific plans on the ballot are the best ways for our society to meet it’s needs.

However, anytime I see some sort of initiative that is for increased funding for Veterans’ programs, I’ll pretty much always blindly vote in favor of it.  I’m no expert, but it seems that in this country we treat our Veterans like complete shit.  I’ve even noted in a prior post that the numbers show that 25% of all Veterans are homeless.  That is an embarrassing figure, and we as a (supposedly modernized) country should be ashamed.

So yeah, if it’s for the Vets, I probably won’t even read the initiative.  JUST TAKE MY MONEY.
