I find it very strange when politicians switch parties suddenly after a bulk of their career with one.  To go from a Republican or a Democrat to an independent/3rd party I could see making some sense, and this is more of a gradual shift in ideologies.

However, to go from a Democrat to a Republican, or vice versa just seems like a drastic “180” to me.  I think most people have political views that change and evolve over time (which is why I don’t affiliate myself with a party), but career politicians who suddenly join the other side after 25 or 30 years in politics — are just bizarre to me.

Why change parties now?  The only possible reason is to cater to a new/changing constituency for votes.  I admire people who are open to new ideas, and even change their minds about their own, but please do it for the right reasons —- meaning it’s what you believe in too.
