Since the advent of Tivo and DVR, the need to be a good “flipper,” isn’t as crucial, but I still feel is very relevant to today’s society.
Often we’ll be watching 2 programs at once, and both programs feature commercials. The goal is when one show goes to a commercial, flip to other, but also make it back before the other show returns. It takes some skill, and commercial breaks can vary in overall duration. For me, I’m more likely to return early, but hey, better than being late.
However, there are some people that have mastered this skill, and manage to always flip back during a network promo, which is the last thing we see before the program gets back. Good job you people.
After all, in life good timing is sweet, but perfect timing is glorious.

I think the point of Tivo and DVR is so that you can watch both programs and avoid the commercials entirely. That’s what I do so I assume I am correct.
