Those were the days. And by days, I mean the time period at the beginning of this concluding decade. Back in the day Winamp is what we used to play mp3’s on our computers. Today, I assume most people use iTunes.
While it’s easy to poke fun at defunct software and technology, I do remember one cool function of Winamp, that actually lead me to a moral crisis.
With Winamp, one could download and install various plug-ins, one of which was a plug-in that allowed the user to alter tempo, without altering pitch. Basically this meant you can speed up a song without making the music sound like Chipmunks music.
It was fun to mess around with this feature, but there was definitely something not kosher about screwing around with a song in a way that the artist/band didn’t really intend me to.
It’s one the thing to make these mash-ups, remixes, samples, etc….but to listen the basic song just sped up is probably just wrong. Wrong!
